Wakeboard NSW sent the last weekend of summer out with a bang, holding Round 5 and State Titles 28th Feb and 1st March in sunny Newcastle.
The sandy banks of the Newcastle Rowing club at Carrington again provided an excellent viewing venue and, although tidal, meant that the close proximity to town and facilities opened the comp to a whole new group of spectators and riders. Once again the Mastercraft Boat crew worked tirelessly to provide the weekend with their best X25, X20 and X10 with approx. 6 boats in use and on show all weekend.
Rider numbers were excellent with once again quite a few new faces that enjoyed their first comp experience and we’re sure wont be their last, we hope to see all you guys next season.
ROUND 5: A bright and early start, the committee setting up in the dark, to take advantage of the deepest water time of the day had the Open and Jnr mens divisions off the dock first. This being our last comp round of the season, riders competed in the aged based format as per requirements for State title and Nationals. Quite a few riders battled it out against different riders to the rest of the comp rounds so this made for interesting result for sure. The warm weather made for calm clear conditions on the water, steamy on the bank with most visiting the snow cone van on a regular basis.
STATE TITLES: With a later start to the day, I’m sure with no complaints as a sleep in on comp day is very rare, the one-run format made for a quicker day wrapping up at 5pm with an on the beach presentation of State Title winners and medals [Champion and Runner up jackets will be presented on the annual presentation night TBA] After the warm up of the day before riders were keen to land a NSW State Title and the riding was excellent.
Given this is our last Wrap up of the season I would like to personally thank our tireless committee who are up and at it every comp day, setting up, packing up, judging, barby cooking, calculating, driving, commentating, social media updating, webpage managing, water booking, council managing, towing trailers and pick up boats and do this all with a fantastic attitude not only for the sport and our kids but to keep our club alive. Without you guys we wouldn’t have the successful growing club we have. We hope with ‘more hands-light work’ next season we will be able to ‘share’ the jobs and the love around a little.
Once again it is with gratitude that we thank all of our generous sponsors for supporting our club over the 2014/2015 season.
